First Time Dining In A Revolving Restaurant At The Top Of Waikiki

The Top of Waikiki has been welcoming guests from all over the world since its opening, which dates back to October 1965. Since then, it has been remodelled into a three-tiered Waikiki hot spot for travellers and foodies alike, serving the best of the best Hawaiian regional steak and seafood on the island. This is the first revolving restaurant I’ve ever been to, so when my family decided to give it a go, it definitely got my mind spinning for sure (no pun intended, hehe).

Whenever I’m in Hawaii to visit family, one of the things that I look forward to the most is to simply eat good food. In Hawaii however, food isn’t just simply good, it is often freakin’ life changing! So when you’re given a chance to wine and dine in one of Hawaii’s super famous revolving restaurants, you gotta just dive right in. I instantly knew that this was going to be one for the books, or in my case, it was going to be one for the blog, so I’m excited to take you guys through what really went down in our first ever visit to the Top of Waikiki.

So…it actually spins?

It sure does. I was low key imagining how the spinning was going to roll, but you know what, it wasn’t too bad at all. The spinning motion was actually very gentle and sophisticated if you may. You can barely feel it spinning and only becomes noticeable when your views of the city start to shift.

The dining area and the bar is actually situated on a round and raised platform, which is the part that spins. These are the kind of views you’ll get to enjoy while you’re up there, gorgeous right?! It’s not everyday that you get to experience panoramic views of a beautiful city such as Honolulu, so we really tried to soak it all in as much as possible. It truly is such a dreamy place to be! Forever grateful for the gift of travel, always.

The food

The food was delightfully just as delicious as the panoramic views of the city. Hands down. Since steak was one of their specialties, I decided to go for the ‘Mama’s New York Steak’, with Thai-inspired Ho Farms tomato, onion relish and a spicy lemon-chilli sauce, served right to perfection. I also ordered the best roasted garlic mashed potatoes I have ever had to have alongside my steak and oh my goodness me – my taste buds were full on rejoicing. Everything was just bursting with so much flavour, just the way I LOVE it.

Now as I wipe the drool off my keyboard, I must tell you that their main menu, although boasts a delectable wide offering of drinks and mains, is solely dedicated for dinner time dining only, as the restaurant doesn’t actually open until 5pm to 9:30pm daily. So, just in case you were dreaming of having a lunch date up there, you’re going to have to shift your plans to the evening, but it’s cool, it’s personally not much of a deal breaker for me. Although they do take on walk-in admissions depending on availability, I would absolutely recommend booking a reservation.

Safe to say, our experience dining at the Top of Waikiki was a real pleasure. Customer service was on point, waiters and waitresses were very attentive and super friendly, views were exceptional and the food was amazing.
