I love Paris. It’s a city that holds lots of happy memories for me so it’ll be a place I know I will keep returning to every now and then. My lovely friends organised a short but sweet Parisian getaway for my birthday, which was definitely one of the best celebrations I’ve ever had to date.
Sacré-Cœur has one of the prettiest views of Paris, exactly like the type that you’ll see on postcards. The walk to this beautiful basilica is not only scenic, it’s fun too! Lots of things going on as you walk towards the Funicular de Montmartre. There were musicians on the street who were hella good too, singing soulful classics and so much more. So we stayed and watched them for a few sets. They actually ended up getting one of my friends to join them as they serenaded the streets of Paris all afternoon.
As we got closer to the basilica, we decided to take the funicular railway which takes visitors up the steep slope from St.Pierre up to Sacré Cœur in about 1.5 mins. Alternatively, you can walk up the hill and consists of about 234 steps. So if you want to incorporate a Parisian leg day into your travel, then I would recommend walking up to the dome this way.
Arc De Triomphe
This is definitely one of my most favourite spots in Paris. The build of Arc De Triomphe was commissioned by Napoléon back in the 1800s for his victory at the Austerlitz. Bitta history there for ya!
We climbed the arch fyi, which was 284 steps up, aren’t we an active lot eh? The sweat was so worth it as the views up top were spectacular.
This show sells out super quickly so if you are planning to see this show in Paris, make sure you book well in advance. Unfortunately, as we were stretched for time, we weren’t able to see the show which is a real shame. But that’s okay, it gives me a reason to go back in the near future. This legendary French cabaret has been welcoming guests from all over the world who have come to see the French Cancan, so expect the likes of sequins, sparkles, fabulous music and plenty of vavavoom. One thing to take note of however, is that there will be some partial nudity in the show, so this won’t be suitable for the young’uns.
The Louvre is one of the largest museums in the world and one of the most historic monuments in France. It has many luxury stores inside and plenty of places to eat so you can easily spend an entire afternoon here. We really wanted to go into the exhibitions and I wanted to see the Mona Lisa painting but since we were running out of time, we only got to pay it a very quick visit.
A trip to Paris would not be complete without seeing the Eiffel Tower in all its glory. There are three levels for visitors, accompanied with a choice of restaurants on the first and second floor. When I was last there, there was a very extravagant engagement shoot happening for a couple. I mean, it makes sense right? Nothing says romance than an afternoon with the love of your life and together gazing at the Eiffel Tower in the very heart of Paris, the city of love *cue love song in the background*. I really do love this place, especially in the evening when it’s all lit up. I could stare and gaze at this beauty for hours on end.
Notre Dame is a Catholic Cathedral in Paris which is thought to epitomise one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture and is one of the most famous church structures in the world.
Snails and Macarons
Now this was a very unique experience for us. We had a late lunch at Le Wilson near Trocadéro and it was an unforgettable one as we all tried escargots (aka SNAILS) for the first time. The snails were soaked in garlic butter so it was hella tasty. Although for me at some point, there was an after-taste of rain water but I think that’s just me overthinking things. It was a unique taste for sure.
You can’t go wrong with a box full of macarons to top off your short but sweet visit to Paris, so that’s exactly what we went and did.
And there we have it, my super short yet super sweet getaway to Paris. If you’re looking for a romantic city break with lots to do and lots of places to eat – then this city would be perfect for you.
